Sweet Valentine's Day Treats for Your Sweet

Updated: Jun 22, 2018

How sweet it is to be loved by you! This is your pilot speaking.

Valentine's Day is this weekend and for those of us on the tarmac, time might be limited to find that special someone a little treat. I've compiled a list of places in major airports around the U.S. where you can find something special if time is tight. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and have first hand experience at most of these places. If I missed a favorite spot of yours I apologies.

The list below is meant to also showcase something only found at that airport. There are two exceptions in The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Dylan's Candy Bar which have franchises around the country. Rocky Mountain is your classic confectionery with treats for ever taste. Dylan's offers a large selection of favorite brand name candies that you can mix and match as well as pre made gift boxes. A special note on Dylan's: If you ever find yourself just east of Central Park in New York City you will find the flagship store that offers 4 stories of candy heaven. And if you happen to be flying internationally, don't forget you can always find delicious limited edition Godiva Belgian chocolates at Duty Free Stores everywhere. Enjoy and safe travels as always!

The Aviator

Atlanta (ATL)

Savannah's Candy Kitchen located in the middle of Concourse B.

Savannah's offers a variety of hand made chocolates with a highlight in their pralines and candied apples. For Valentine's Day the chocolate covered strawberries are a sure hit.

Chicago (MDW)

Nuts on Clark located in Terminal C near TSA

Nuts on Clark does many things well, offering a variety of seasoned and candied nuts. For me, their popcorn should come with a warning label for how addictive it can be. Any time I pass through Chicago my flight bag ends up with some of their caramel popcorn in it. The cheese and butter flavors are great as well. Get a tin as a Valentine's Day gift and a bag for yourself.

Chicago (ORD)

Nuts on Clark. Terminal 1 near C19, Terminal 2 near E2, and Terminal 3 near H8.

Read above post from MDW. It's a Chicago staple.

Vosges Chocolate near Gate B6 and in Terminals 3 and 5

Vosges is a designer brand chocolate with many exotic and creative flavors you won't find many other places-a sure hit for an adventurous foodie. Some favorites of mine? Thanks for asking: Chili Powder & Dark Chocolate and Maple Bacon come to mind. For Valentine's Day check out the truffles which are always a perfect romantic sweet.

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory near gate B14 and H5

Dallas (DFW)

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory near gate D33

Natalie's Candy Jar near gate C8 and A15

A similar concept to Dylan's, with pre-made boxes as well as the mix and match of brand name treats to give you sweet her favorite sweets.

Denver (DEN)

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory near gate B52

Detroit (DTW)

Dylan's Candy Bar near gate A63

This coffee bar also offers a chocolate case. The highlight for me are the truffles-a perfect Valentine.

Houston (IAH)

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Terminal C near gate 42

Los Angeles (LAX)

See's Candy. Terminals 1, 3, 4

See's Candy is distributed nation wide with headquarters in San Francisco. These old fashioned California treats are hard to resist. An assortment box will make a great Valentine's Day gift.

Miami (MIA)

Icebox Cafe near gate D8

MIA excels in the retail of most things, but sweets seem to be lacking. In a pinch Icebox Cafe can put together a nice assortment of pastries and cookies for your Valentine.

Minneapolis (MSP)

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

The center of the Minneapolis airport has an area referred to as 'The Mall', a large area of shopping outlets to fill a variety of needs. You will this store located in this area, and maybe something else to boot!

New York (JFK)

Dylan's Candy Bar in Terminal 5

Salt Lake City (SLC)

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Located in Terminal 1 on the second level and Terminal 2 near gate D5.

San Francisco (SFO)

Embarcadero Treats near gate G93

This store has the feel of an international market place. Chocolates and other treats from around the world are available so you are sure to find something distinct for your well-traveled love.

See's Candy and Ghirardelli have multiple independent locations as well as supplies in most basic stores in the airport. Both these companies were founded in the Bay Area. Find just the right gift box from either or make your own collection for your significant other.
